Detectives investigating a fatal stabbing near a school in Alum Rock's Bridge Road have officially named the victim as Ali Alshmari, a 30-year-old man who was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The incident occurred on Tuesday, March 3, and has left the local community in shock.
Police Investigation and Arrest
In a significant development, West Midlands Police have arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with the stabbing. The suspect remains in police custody as of the morning of March 4, with officers continuing their enquiries at the scene. Det Supt James Munro of West Midlands Police stated, "This is a tragic and violent attack which has cost the life of Mr Alshmari, and left a woman injured. We are doing everything we can to establish exactly what happened and why, and the public’s response has been fantastic."

During the incident, a woman in her 50s sustained injuries to her hand. She has since been treated and discharged from hospital, but the event has raised deep concerns in the area.
