Banned Driver's High-Speed Police Pursuit in Hired Audi RS3

Asad Shakil, a 23-year-old from Nottingham, found himself in handcuffs after a dramatic police chase through Rowley Regis, despite explicit bail conditions prohibiting his presence in the entire West Midlands region.

Late Night Chase Through Residential Streets

The incident unfolded on the evening of January 21, when police patrol officers spotted a black Audi RS3 speeding through Rowley Regis. Shakil had hired the powerful vehicle for the day, with other occupants inside the car at the time.

CCTV footage presented to Wolverhampton Crown Court showed police initiating pursuit with blue lights activated. Prosecuting barrister Naomi Nelson-Cofie revealed the Audi was already exceeding 50mph in a 30mph zone when first observed.

Dangerous Speeding and Dramatic Crash

The pursuit escalated rapidly as Shakil attempted to evade officers. "Officers observed the defendant going in excess of 80mph in a 30mph zone," Ms Nelson-Cofie told the court during proceedings.

The high-speed chase concluded when Shakil lost control of the vehicle, crashing into a telegraph pole outside a residential property. The impact left the Audi severely damaged against the lamppost on what should have been a quiet neighborhood street.

Failed Escape and Court Sentencing

Following the crash, Shakil attempted to flee the scene through a nearby churchyard but was quickly apprehended. "The defendant managed to get himself stuck while climbing a metal railing," Ms Nelson-Cofie explained to the court.

During police interview, Shakil immediately admitted being the driver but offered no further comment about the incident. The prosecution emphasized that at the time of the pursuit, Shakil was "on bail awaiting sentencing" with specific conditions requiring him to "keep out of the West Midlands."

Additional Assault Charges and Prison Sentence

At Wolverhampton Crown Court on February 27, Shakil received a 10-month prison sentence for dangerous driving related to the police chase. Defence counsel Babir Adris confirmed Shakil had "hired the car for the day" when the incident occurred.

The court also addressed a separate incident from November 7, 2022, where Shakil and his father, Shakil Janjua, attacked a man in Dudley town center. Both men admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

For this additional offense, Shakil received a further five-month prison sentence. His father avoided immediate imprisonment with a 10-month suspended sentence lasting 18 months, highlighting the serious consequences of breaching court orders and engaging in dangerous behavior on public roads.
