Two Birmingham Residents Appear in Court Amid Leicester Murder Investigation

Two individuals from Birmingham are among eight people who have appeared in court over the alleged murder of a missing man, Gary Piatek, who has not been seen for almost two years. Police teams are continuing to dig at a house in Leicester as part of the ongoing inquiries into his disappearance.

Major Search Operation Underway in Leicester

A significant search operation has been taking place at a property on Broad Avenue in Evington, Leicester, which includes demolishing its extension. Mr. Piatek is believed to have been alive when he visited a pub on April 18, 2024, but there has been no proof of life since then. The court heard that he lived in a property on Broad Avenue, which he inherited from his parents.

Charges and Court Appearances

A total of eight people have been charged in connection with the probe after warrants were executed at addresses in Evington on Tuesday, February 11. Yosif Ibrahim, 43, of Broad Avenue, Leicester, and Omed Firuzman, 25, of Ashley Road, Bournemouth, Dorset, are charged with the murder of Mr. Piatek between April 17 and 20, 2024. They appeared side by side in the dock on Friday, February 13, speaking only to confirm their details before being remanded in custody. Both will appear at Leicester Crown Court on Monday, February 16.

Additional Charges Involving Birmingham Residents

Diar Muhammedy, 34, of Falmouth Road, Leicester, and Mabast Khalid, 21, of Manway Close, Birmingham, are charged with assisting an offender between April 17 and 25, 2024. The court heard that they allegedly washed items including blankets and pillows. They were also remanded in custody and will appear at the crown court on Monday.

Dilan Rabati, 34, and Ahmed Nabla, 34, both of Broad Avenue, Leicester, denied acquiring, using, or having possession of criminal property—specifically, a house on Broad Avenue belonging to Mr. Piatek—between June 1, 2024, and February 10, 2026. Dalya Rabati, 29, of Frazer Nash Close, Isleworth, London, denied the same charge related to the property and money belonging to Mr. Piatek, as well as fraud for allegedly creating a false tenancy agreement on January 29 last year.

Nazem Kakamando, 50, of Gordon Road, Birmingham, denied acquiring, using, or having possession of criminal property on February 10, 2026, which involved more than £140,000 in cash. He also denied fraud for allegedly making a false tenancy agreement on January 29 last year.

Ongoing Investigation and Police Bail

A 61-year-old from Leicester, arrested on suspicion of murder, has been released on police bail while inquiries continue. Police stated that investigative work will persist at the house on Broad Avenue for several weeks, with teams using specialist search equipment. The case highlights the extensive efforts to uncover the truth behind Mr. Piatek's disappearance and the serious charges faced by those involved.
