Birmingham Killer's Reign of Terror: Calls During Sex and Stabbing

Birmingham Killer's Disturbing Reign of Terror Over Lover

An "evil" killer from Birmingham, who fatally stabbed her lover in front of his family, had previously terrorized him emotionally and physically, including phoning him while she was having sex with other men. Cordelia Farrell's brutal attack on dad-of-three Wayne Coventry, 36, marked the culmination of her abusive control over the victim.

Pattern of Physical and Emotional Abuse

Farrell's reign of terror involved extreme physical violence and psychological torment. In one horrific incident, police reported that Farrell "dragged" Wayne around his flat by his testicles, causing him to pass out from the pain. His brother Sean revealed that "58 sets of teeth marks" were found on his genitals after the attack.

Sean described the emotional abuse: "She used to phone him up while she was having sex with other men—just so he could hear it and it would get to him." This calculated cruelty was part of a broader pattern where Farrell would threaten Wayne's life, with his father Barry recalling: "I've even heard her turn around and threaten to kill him."

The Fatal Attack in Bromsgrove

Despite a non-molestation order being in place, Wayne continued to see Farrell. The situation reached its brutal conclusion on October 14, 2019, during a get-together at Sean's home in Bromsgrove. Sean heard a commotion in the living room before seeing Farrell grab a kitchen knife while Wayne had his back turned.

"As he turned, Farrell plunged the knife right in him," Sean remembered. "My brother-in-law shouted 'don't pull the knife out' but she just pulled it out and smirked, as if she knew what she was doing. And my son was stood right there beside her when she did it—an 11-year-old boy."

Sean described his brother's final moments: "He carried on and walked to here, and he must have realized, and he has turned round, he said 'Sean', and that was it, he fell down on the floor. I've had to get down on the floor and start counting my brother's last breaths." Farrell reportedly dropped the knife and walked out as Wayne lay dying.

Court Proceedings and Sentencing

Farrell eventually handed herself in five days later but refused to admit responsibility, claiming she acted in self-defense. During the trial at Worcester Crown Court, Sean testified that while giving evidence, "Cordelia was in the dock smiling at me as if it was something to laugh about."

Much to the family's disgust, Farrell was cleared of murder and found guilty of manslaughter after a two-week trial. She was sentenced to ten years behind bars with a minimum term of seven-and-a-half years. Farrell was also found guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and received an 18-month concurrent sentence.

Family's Plea to Domestic Abuse Victims

Sean called the sentencing "wrong" and is now urging men who are suffering from domestic abuse to break their silence. "If there is anyone else out there going through the same thing, please get help or please speak to your family members," he said. "I know it is hard but you need to try and listen. I wish my brother would have done because he wouldn't be where he is now."

He added a poignant reflection on his brother's character: "I just miss him and I know for a fact that if he would have survived this, he probably still would have dropped the charges because that's the sort of person he was. He loved her to bits and no one could say anything."

The case has highlighted the devastating impact of domestic abuse and the importance of seeking help, regardless of gender. Farrell, from Bartley Green, was described by experts on ITV's true crime documentary as "emotionally unstable, volatile and self-destructive," suffering from an underlying personality disorder.
