Birmingham man charged with £700 Boots theft

A man from Birmingham has been charged by police following an alleged shoplifting incident at a Boots store in Lichfield, where goods valued at around £700 were reportedly stolen.

Details of the Lichfield Boots Incident

Staffordshire Police were called to the Boots store on Bakers Lane in Lichfield city centre at approximately 3pm on Saturday, 20 December. The report concerned a theft in progress. Officers, who were already patrolling the local area, responded quickly to the call.

The suspect was apprehended nearby. He has been identified as Waleed Basharat, aged 26, of Ludlow Road in the Alum Rock area of Birmingham. Police state that an estimated £700-worth of stolen goods was recovered.

Charges and Court Appearance

Waleed Basharat has been charged with two offences:

  • Theft from a shop.
  • Possession of a controlled Class B drug, namely cannabis.

Following his arrest, he was bailed by police and is required to appear at Cannock Magistrates' Court on Friday, 16 January.
