Police Make Arrest Following Shopping Centre Machete Attack
A 16-year-old boy has been arrested by West Midlands Police following a disturbing machete attack at the popular Merry Hill shopping centre in Dudley.
The incident occurred on Friday, November 28, at approximately 3:30pm, when disorder broke out within the complex. According to reports, a gang chased another group through the centre, culminating in an attack in the Eat Central food court.
Victim Injured in Food Court Chase
The pursuit resulted in a 17-year-old boy being assaulted with a machete. The victim sustained a minor cut to his back from the weapon. Paramedics were called to the scene and the injured teenager was transported to hospital for treatment.
Investigators moved quickly, making an arrest the following day. A 16-year-old male was taken into custody at around 5pm on Saturday, November 29. He has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent.
Police Appeal for Witnesses and Footage
Despite the arrest, West Midlands Police are continuing their appeal for information. The force confirmed it received multiple calls from members of the public who were in the centre at the time of the attack.
A police statement read: "We still need to hear from anyone who has mobile phone footage, who saw what happened, or who has any other information."
To reassure the public, extra officers will be patrolling in and around Merry Hill over the weekend. They will be available to speak to anyone with concerns.

Shopping Centre Reassures Public on Safety
Jonathan Poole, Centre Manager for Merry Hill, issued a statement in response to the incident. "We are aware of an incident that occurred in the centre yesterday and we are assisting West Midlands Police with its investigation," he said.
He sought to reassure visitors, adding, "Customer safety is our number one priority, and we work hard to ensure that Merry Hill remains a safe place to visit."
