A man who carried out a series of burglaries in the Black Country, including stealing a Mercedes while victims slept, has been sentenced to more than six years in prison.
Night-time raid on Sandyacre Way
Peter Montroy, aged 45, broke into a property on Sandyacre Way in Stourbridge in the early hours of January 5, 2024. The incident occurred at around 1.40am while the residents were asleep. Montroy triggered an alarm, which woke the household. As they went downstairs to investigate, they saw a figure running from their address.
The victims discovered their front door was unlocked and heard voices outside. They then witnessed their Mercedes being driven off the driveway. During the raid, Montroy stole car keys from both vehicles at the home but only took the Mercedes. He also took a wallet containing cash and bank cards.
Second burglary in Wall Heath
The Dudley Neighbourhood Crime Team later connected this crime to another burglary. On April 22, 2024, shortly after midday, Montroy targeted a home on Oasthouse Close in Wall Heath. He used a brick to smash a window to gain entry before conducting an untidy search of the bedrooms. Jewellery was stolen during this second offence.
Arrest and sentencing
Following an investigation linking the two incidents, Montroy was arrested on May 3, 2024. He appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Thursday, January 8, 2026, where he had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary and theft, as well as the theft of a motor vehicle.
Montroy was sentenced to a total of six years and nine months imprisonment.
Police Constable Alex Griparis, the investigating officer, said: "Montroy broke into people’s safe spaces, their homes, and showed no remorse carrying out the same crime a few months later targeting another innocent family."
"Burglary is a really invasive crime that can cause long-lasting damage to people's lives, so I hope that this sentence will give each of the victims some peace that he will now serve time behind bars for his crimes," PC Griparis added.
The officer reaffirmed the police's commitment to tackling such offences, stating they take all reports of burglary seriously and work to bring those responsible to justice.
