Police are investigating a disturbing incident of public disorder in Birmingham after a car was deliberately attacked and damaged by a group of young men.
Violent scene captured on video
The trouble occurred on Ladypool Road in Sparkbrook at around 10:45pm on Friday, November 28. A video shared online and seen by local media shows several individuals targeting a black Seat Leon.
The vehicle was blocked on the road near the junction with Clifton Road, with Pepe's takeaway visible in the background. Scuffles broke out between the car's occupants and the group outside.
Car attacked with weapons
The footage shows one person reaching into the rear passenger side before the door is slammed shut. Another opens the driver's side rear door before being struck and hobbling away.
With the doors closed, two youths then began striking the car. One appeared to be armed with a chain, while another held a crutch in one hand and struck the vehicle with an orange pole-like object in the other.
The attack resulted in the car's windscreen being completely smashed, leaving broken glass scattered across the road.
Driver's desperate manoeuvres
In a bid to escape, the driver reversed towards Clifton Road while under attack, before driving forward down Ladypool Road to the initial point of the confrontation.
This reversing and driving forward manoeuvre was repeated twice more as the assault on the vehicle continued. The sound of blaring horns filled the background during the chaotic scene.
Eventually, the driver reversed again and sped away in the opposite direction down Ladypool Road, which forms part of Birmingham's famous 'Balti Triangle'.
Police appeal for witnesses
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police confirmed they were called to reports of disorder and that enquiries are ongoing.
The force is urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to make contact. They can use Live Chat on the West Midlands Police website or call 101, quoting log reference 5783 of 28 November.
