Former West Mercia Police Officer Jailed for Stealing Over £13,000 from Colleagues
Corrupt Police Officer Jailed for Stealing from Federation Funds

Former Police Federation Treasurer Sentenced for Fraudulent Claims

A former Midland police officer who systematically stole thousands of pounds from his colleagues to finance an extravagant lifestyle has been handed a prison sentence. Jamie Harrison, who resided on Worcester Road in Droitwich, held the dual roles of secretary and treasurer for the West Mercia Police Federation between 2010 and 2018.

Abuse of Position and Financial Misconduct

Harrison was entrusted with safeguarding the financial interests of fellow officers but instead exploited his authority for personal enrichment. He fraudulently extracted more than £13,000 from federation funds, which he utilized for family vacations, alcohol purchases, and various entertainment expenses.

The corrupt officer manipulated the system by making over one hundred fraudulent claims, deliberately keeping each transaction just under £100 to evade detection and scrutiny. Harrison maintained sole control over the federation's petty cash, repeatedly accessing it without authorization.

Additional Fraudulent Activities Uncovered

Investigations revealed that Harrison also received salary payments for days when he was absent from work. Text message evidence confirmed he took unauthorized leave to attend rugby matches abroad in Italy and Ireland, and spent time tending to his allotment, while his official timesheets falsely indicated he worked full shifts.

Most egregiously, Harrison exploited solemn National Police Memorial Days—occasions intended to honor officers who died in the line of duty—as opportunities to take his wife and children on fully-funded family holidays. These trips included stays at four and five-star hotels in York, Cardiff, Edinburgh, and London, with Harrison charging accommodation, meals, and day excursions to federation accounts.

Legal Proceedings and Sentencing

Harrison faced justice at Hereford Crown Court, where he was convicted on fifteen counts of fraud by abuse of position. The total value of his fraudulent activities amounted to approximately £13,500. Following his resignation from West Mercia Police in February 2022, Harrison appeared at Worcester Crown Court on March 25, where he received a sentence of two years and three months for each charge, to be served concurrently.

Official Statements Condemning the Betrayal

Detective Superintendent Tony Garner of West Mercia Police stated: "Jamie Harrison chose to act for himself, taking advantage of his position as treasurer and secretary within the Police Federation to use members' funds for his own gain. This was a betrayal of the trust placed in him by both the public and his colleagues."

Victoria Norman, unit head for the CPS's Serious Economic Organised and International Directorate, added: "As a police officer and Federation treasurer, Jamie Harrison was in a position of considerable trust and was expected to act with honesty and integrity. Instead, he exploited his control over WMPF's finances for personal gain and behaved in a thoroughly dishonest way during the entire eight years of his tenure."

Norman emphasized that Harrison displayed an extremely cavalier attitude toward being caught, dipping into petty cash at will, claiming unreasonable expenses, and falsifying timesheets. His entitled and dishonest behavior represented a total betrayal of colleagues whose subscriptions funded the Police Federation, undermining public confidence in law enforcement institutions.
