Deadly Weapons Seized Across West Midlands in Police Crackdown
Project Guardian officers, a specialist police team dedicated to tackling knife crime and youth violence, have made three significant weapons discoveries across the West Midlands region. The operation resulted in the seizure of a zombie knife, a knuckle duster and a lock knife during targeted stops in Birmingham, the Black Country and Solihull.
Three Men Charged Following Separate Incidents
Three men now face criminal charges while a teenage boy has been released on bail pending further investigations. The first discovery occurred on Friday, February 27, when officers spotted suspicious activity in Tower Street, Dudley. Following a stop-and-search, a 17-year-old boy was detained and a knuckle duster was recovered.
The teenager was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and has since been bailed as enquiries continue. Project Guardian officers then conducted patrols in Bosworth Drive, Chelmsley Wood, where they stopped two men and recovered a zombie knife.
Court Appearances for Weapon Possession Charges
Ilenin Adjiba, aged 18 and from Fordbridge, and Brandon Elliker, aged 20, from Solihull, were both charged with possession of a knife in a public place. Both men were remanded in custody and appeared at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Monday, March 2.
On the same day, officers seized a lock knife while patrolling Soho Road in Handsworth. Callum Doyle, aged 27, from Birmingham, was charged with possession of a knife and was also remanded in custody to appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court.
Project Guardian's Mission to Combat Knife Crime
A West Midlands Police spokesperson emphasized the importance of Project Guardian's work, stating: "Project Guardian is a specialist taskforce which tackles knife crime and youth violence. There is particular emphasis on reducing knife crime through a range of tactics from plain-clothed operations to high visibility patrols and positive engagement with young people."
The spokesperson urged the public to report suspicious activity: "If you see something suspicious in your area, get in touch with us by calling 101, or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 to stay anonymous."
The weapons seizures represent significant progress in the ongoing battle against knife-related violence in the West Midlands region. Project Guardian continues its targeted operations across multiple communities, employing various strategies to remove dangerous weapons from circulation and engage with young people to prevent further incidents.
