Crime at Birmingham's Digbeth Coach Station drops 63% after police crackdown
Digbeth Coach Station crime drops 63% after crackdown

Police have reported a dramatic 63 per cent drop in crime at Digbeth Coach Station, a key transport hub described as the 'primary gateway' to Birmingham, following a targeted crackdown on aggressive begging, drug taking, and abuse.

Since June 2025, calls to police from the station have also fallen by 50 per cent. The force has pledged to maintain a visible police presence at the station and other key city locations throughout the summer months.

Operation targets anti-social behaviour

The West Midlands Police operation, in partnership with National Express, used a 'nationally recognised collaborative problem-solving approach' to address concerns raised by the public about frequent incidents at the station. Chief Inspector Dan Thomas said: "From the outset, we were mindful of the importance of the coach station to Birmingham, and we were clear in wanting the area around Digbeth to be as welcoming as possible for everyone."

"This approach has proven to be really successful, and it is through our work with partners such as Bidvest Noonan Security, Safer Travel, Birmingham City Council, and our own Public Protection Unit that we have achieved this. Importantly, a drop in crime means fewer victims - as we do everything we can to protect the public."

Continued police presence over summer

Thomas added: "We are not complacent though, and our work around the coach station and other key city centre locations will continue throughout the summer months." Passengers can expect to see a visible police presence aimed at deterring further anti-social behaviour.

Keith Trail, Head of Coach Stations at National Express, said: "The safety and security of our customers and colleagues is always our top priority. We are pleased to be working closely with West Midlands Police and other key stakeholders in the Digbeth area to address anti-social behaviour. A visible police presence at our coach stations helps to reassure passengers, deter crime, and ensure that everyone feels safe and supported when travelling with us."
