The family of a woman described as beautiful and kind have paid an emotional tribute after she was fatally stabbed at a bus stop in Birmingham city centre.
A Life Taken Too Soon
Katie Fox, 34, was attacked on Smallbrook Queensway shortly after 9pm on Friday, November 7. She suffered a serious neck injury and was rushed to hospital, where she later died.
In a joint statement released this afternoon, her heartbroken family described Katie as their shining light and a beautiful guardian angel.
Charges Brought and Court Date Set
Djeison Rafael, 21, of Rosedale Avenue, Smethwick, has been charged with her murder.
He also faces a series of additional charges:
- Two counts of causing actual bodily harm on October 27 and November 7
- Possession of a Stanley blade on November 7
- Assaulting a detention escort officer on November 8
Rafael is scheduled to stand trial at Birmingham Crown Court on May 5 next year.

In their moving statement, Katie Fox's family expressed their profound grief, saying a part of them was snatched away on that fateful night.
You were everything a daughter could be and much more, the statement read. Your loss to us has been so hard to bear and so hard to comprehend but we know that you are still with us and giving us the strength in every way.
The family also extended their thanks to the paramedics, police, and the ITU at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for their professionalism and companionship during the ordeal.
They have asked for privacy to grieve the loss of their most precious daughter at this difficult time.
