Saundersfoot Runners Host Fourth Annual Food Bank Run for Tenby Food Bank
The Saundersfoot Runners recently organized their fourth annual Food Bank Run, a community-focused event dedicated to supporting The James Criddle Foundation, a food bank based in Tenby. This popular gathering attracted a robust turnout, with runners and walkers of all skill levels participating enthusiastically.
Event Details and Community Spirit
Despite a wet start to the morning, the rain cleared just in time for the 10am commencement, offering participants a hint of sunshine. Undeterred by puddles along the Heritage Trail towards Pleasant Valley, attendees made multiple trips along the route, collecting discs that were later exchanged for raffle tickets. This innovative approach, alongside generous food donations, significantly boosted support for the Foundation.
Organizers expressed heartfelt gratitude to Wiseman’s Bridge Inn for providing shelter, ensuring donations remained dry before and after the event, and for rehydrating everyone afterwards. The response from the community was described as heart-warming, with thanks extended to all participants, donors, and raffle ticket purchasers.
Background on The James Criddle Foundation
The James Criddle Foundation was established in 2022 in memory of James, who tragically died in a motorcycle accident while living in Bali. Rachael, his mother and one of the foundation's organizers, shared, "James would have been so proud of what has been achieved in his name. We love working with Saundersfoot Runners on the annual Food Bank Run — they are one of our biggest supporters and their support means such a lot to local families at this difficult time of year."
History and Expansion of the Food Bank Run
The Food Bank Run originated as the brainchild of Sarah Don, who first organized the event through her running club in Fareham, Hampshire, to collect donations for their local food bank. Following its initial success and increased awareness of growing support needs, it became an annual fixture. Although COVID-19 and personal circumstances delayed wider expansion, the initiative evolved into a national and later international movement in 2023 after Sarah created a Facebook group encouraging running clubs worldwide to organize similar events.
Details for the 2027 Food Bank Run will be announced on the Saundersfoot Runners Facebook page in due course.
