The incident took place on West Bromwich High Street on the morning of Tuesday, 29 October. The victim, a man in his 80s, was approached by an individual. The suspect then used a bizarre method to distract him, spraying a substance believed to be food onto the pensioner's jacket.

While pretending to help clean the mess, the offender created confusion. In the ensuing commotion, the elderly victim accidentally dropped an envelope he was carrying. The man then snatched the envelope and fled the scene, making off with the substantial sum of money inside.

West Midlands Police have released an image of a man they urgently wish to speak to, as they believe he holds vital information that could assist their investigation. The force has stated the theft occurred between 11:30am and 11:50am.
