Kidderminster Evacuated Over Bomb Threat

Residents of a Kidderminster cul-de-sac were evacuated on July 7 after an unexploded ordnance was discovered in an unoccupied property on Ismere Way in the Broadwaters area.

Police Response and Evacuation

West Mercia Police officers were called to the scene earlier in the afternoon following reports of the item. A 100-metre cordon was established, and residents within the cordon were evacuated as a precaution. Road closures were put in place, and the public was urged to avoid the area.

Bomb Squad Intervention

Experts from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team were called to the scene. By around 4.10pm, the cordon was lifted, and residents were allowed to return home. The EOD team removed the item from the property and took it away for safe disposal.

Official Statements

A West Mercia Police spokesperson confirmed the initial response at 3.20pm: "A 100-metre cordon is in place in the Broadwaters area of Kidderminster after the discovery of an unexploded ordnance. Officers were called to Ismere Way earlier this afternoon following a report of the item being discovered in an unoccupied property." The spokesperson added that experts from EOD had been called and residents within the cordon were being evacuated.

In a subsequent update at 4.10pm, the force stated: "Cordon lifted and residents able to return to homes. The EOD team have removed the item from the property and taken it away for safe disposal. The cordon and road closures have now been lifted and residents are able to return to their homes."
