A 28-year-old man has been arrested after dozens of parked cars were vandalised with a crowbar on Moseley Road in the Highgate area of Birmingham. The incident occurred around 10am on Friday, June 12, prompting a swift response from West Midlands Police.
Details of the incident
Multiple vehicles parked along Moseley Road had their windscreens, rear windows, and side windows smashed in a spree that shocked local residents. Concerned members of the public reported a man damaging cars, leading officers to attend the scene in Balsall Heath.
Police arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of causing criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon. A crowbar was recovered at the scene, and the suspect was further detained for possession of an offensive weapon.
Social media footage
A video circulating on social media showed a man wielding a crowbar, inflicting damage while a car repeatedly sounded its horn in alarm. Other footage captured shocked drivers returning to find their vehicles destroyed, with one witness estimating that more than 40 cars were targeted during the frenzy.
Police statement
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a man damaging numerous vehicles on Moseley Road, Birmingham, at around 10am this morning. Officers attended and arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of causing criminal damage. A crowbar was also recovered, and he was further arrested for possession of an offensive weapon."
