Three House Fires Prompt Major Emergency Response
Police have named a man who has been charged in connection with three separate house fires that broke out in a Leicestershire town. The incidents, which occurred in Ashby, prompted a massive emergency service response and resulted in three people requiring hospital treatment.
Charges and Court Appearance
Leicestershire Police have confirmed that Karl Poxon, aged 50, of Holywell Avenue in Ashby, now faces serious charges. He has been charged with three counts of arson with intent to endanger life and one count of dangerous driving.
Following his arrest, Poxon was remanded into custody. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance at Leicester Magistrates' Court on Monday, 24 November.
Location and Impact of the Fires
The charges relate to a series of linked fires that took place on Holywell Avenue, Prestop Drive, and Clifton Drive in Ashby. The blazes were significant enough that smoke was reportedly visible for miles around, drawing a large-scale deployment of fire and rescue services.
Three people – identified as two teenagers and a woman – were taken to hospital for medical care. Thankfully, their injuries were not considered life-threatening or life-changing. One of the teenagers was treated for burn injuries and smoke inhalation, while the other teenager and the woman were treated for smoke inhalation.
The community has been left shaken by the events, and the police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fires is ongoing.
