Man Appears in Court Over Two Murder Charges
A 40-year-old man has been formally charged with the murders of two women who died in London five months apart, as well as serious sexual offences against a third woman.
Simon Levy, of Beaufoy Road in Tottenham, north London, is accused of killing 53-year-old Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo and 39-year-old Sheryl Wilkins in separate incidents earlier this year.
Details of the First Murder Charge
The first victim, Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo, was discovered at a property on the Aylesbury estate in south-east London on March 17. Despite the efforts of emergency services, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation was launched by the Metropolitan Police after a post-mortem examination failed to establish a definitive cause of death, leading to further forensic inquiries.
Second Victim and Additional Charges
Five months later, on August 24, emergency services found Sheryl Wilkins unresponsive at an address on High Road in Tottenham. She too was pronounced dead at the scene.
Levy faces further serious allegations relating to a third woman. He is charged with two counts of rape, grievous bodily harm with intent, and non-fatal strangulation against this woman in the same Tottenham location on January 21. The woman cannot be named for legal reasons.
Court Proceedings and Next Steps
Levy was scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, November 25, but he did not attend the hearing. District Judge Sam Goozee subsequently ordered that the defendant be produced at the Old Bailey on Wednesday, November 26.
The Crown Prosecution Service is now considering whether to join all charges - the two murder counts, two rape allegations, GBH, and non-fatal strangulation - into a single indictment.
The Metropolitan Police has indicated they believe there may be individuals with information that could assist their ongoing investigation and are appealing for these people to come forward.
