Police Investigation Underway After Man Found Injured Near Birmingham's Pigeon Park
A significant police operation is currently taking place in Birmingham city centre this morning, following the discovery of a man with serious head injuries. The incident has prompted a cordon around a section of Colmore Row, near the popular Cathedral Square area, locally referred to as "Pigeon Park."
Details of the Incident
West Midlands Police were called to the scene at approximately 2:30 AM on Thursday, March 5, 2026, after reports of an injured man. Upon arrival, officers found the individual with severe head injuries, who was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.
A small blue forensic tent has been erected by police next to a bus stop within the cordoned-off area, indicating a thorough investigation is in progress. Specialist teams are on-site conducting enquiries to determine the circumstances surrounding how the man sustained his injuries.
A police spokesperson stated: "He was taken to hospital with a serious head injury and we are carrying out enquiries in the area to understand how the man came to be injured."
Impact on Commuters and Public Transport
The incident has caused considerable disruption during the morning rush hour, as commuters and office workers have been forced to seek alternative routes. Public transport services have been particularly affected, with several bus routes experiencing significant changes.
Specifically, buses that typically serve Newhall Street are being diverted down Church Street and are unable to access stop SH1. This has led to delays and inconvenience for passengers traveling through the city centre.
The restricted area remains in place as investigations continue, with authorities urging the public to avoid the vicinity to allow for a comprehensive examination of the scene.
