Man Jailed for Sexual Assault After Posing as Taxi Driver in Lidl Car Park

Kelvin Ndoro, a 42-year-old man from Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for a sexual assault that occurred after he pretended to be a taxi driver. The incident took place in the early hours of May 18 last year, when Ndoro targeted a woman in her 20s as she walked home from a night out in Nottingham.

Deceptive Encounter and Assault

Ndoro pulled up alongside the victim on South Sherwood Street in a VW Golf, falsely claiming it was a taxi. The woman, seeking a ride home, entered the front passenger seat. However, instead of taking her to her destination, Ndoro drove to the car park of a Lidl supermarket on Mansfield Road in the Midlands.

Once there, he locked the doors and sexually assaulted her by touching her leg. He then suggested they move to the back of the car, which the victim agreed to as a means to escape. She managed to get out of the vehicle and hid before seeking help from passers-by.

Arrest and Court Proceedings

Nottinghamshire Police acted swiftly, arresting Ndoro the following day at Toddington Services on the M1 in Bedfordshire. He admitted to sexual assault and was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday, February 5. In addition to the prison term, Ndoro has been placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.

Detective Constable Rebecca Walker of Nottinghamshire Police commented on the case, stating, "This must have been a terrifying experience for the young woman and we know it has had a lasting psychological impact upon her." She praised the victim's quick thinking, which allowed her to escape, and highlighted the predatory nature of Ndoro's behavior.

Police Response and Support

The police worked diligently to identify Ndoro's vehicle, trace it, and build a strong case against him while providing support to the victim. This thorough investigation left Ndoro with no choice but to admit his crimes. The case underscores the importance of community vigilance and law enforcement efforts in addressing such predatory acts.
