West Midlands Police have issued a fresh appeal for witnesses following a violent incident at the Merry Hill shopping centre on Black Friday, after a teenage suspect was released on bail.
Details of the Black Friday Attack
The disturbance unfolded at around 3.30pm on Friday, November 30. According to police reports, a group of males chased another gang through the busy shopping complex, prompting alarmed shoppers to dial 999.
The pursuit resulted in a 17-year-old victim suffering a small cut to his back, inflicted by a machete. Emergency services attended the scene, and the injured teenager was taken to hospital for treatment.
Investigation Update and Bail Conditions
A 16-year-old boy was arrested on Saturday, November 31, on suspicion of wounding with intent. He has since been released on bail with what authorities describe as strict conditions, pending further enquiries.
Detective Sergeant Liz Skyte, who is leading the investigation, emphasised the force's commitment to a thorough probe. "We understand how concerning this incident has been for residents and are carrying out a very detailed and thorough investigation into understanding exactly what happened," she stated.
Urgent Appeal for Footage and Information
Detective Sergeant Skyte directly appealed to the public for assistance. "We would like to hear from anyone who was in the centre at the time and has any information or mobile phone footage," she said. "No matter how insignificant or small it may be, your assistance could greatly help with our investigation so please get in touch."
The attack is reported to have occurred inside the centre's Eat Central food hall. Police have confirmed an increased presence in the area, both as a seasonal measure and to offer reassurance to the public.
