A nursery in Coventry was placed on lockdown after a man with knives was seen inside a building, police have confirmed. The incident occurred at Park Edge Family Hub on Roseberry Avenue, which houses Bell Green Nursery.
Police Response and Injuries
Officers rushed to the scene at approximately 10:40 AM on Thursday, May 28. The nursery immediately enacted lockdown procedures. Paramedics discovered a man with serious injuries, who was transported to University Hospital Coventry (UHCW) for treatment. No other individuals were hurt, and knives were recovered from the location.
Arrest and Investigation
West Midlands Police confirmed the man was released from hospital and taken into custody for questioning on suspicion of possessing a bladed article. A police spokesperson stated: “We responded to reports of a man with knives on Roseberry Avenue. He entered a nearby building and was arrested shortly after. No one was injured, and the knives were recovered.”
West Midlands Ambulance Service added: “We were called at 11:37 AM and treated a man for serious injuries before conveying him to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.”
Nursery Statement
A Bell Green Nursery spokesman emphasized that the man did not enter the nursery itself. “At no point did the individual enter the nursery or have any contact with children, staff, or families. Our team followed safeguarding and lockdown procedures, and children remained safe. Parents were informed, and the situation was resolved within 40 minutes. We are proud of our staff’s professionalism and thank parents for their cooperation.”
