Police Boost Presence for Eid al-Adha in Birmingham

West Midlands Police have announced an increased presence in two Birmingham areas during the Eid al-Adha celebrations, which begin on Tuesday, May 26, and run until Saturday, May 30. Thousands are expected to gather in Small Heath Park on Wednesday, May 27, for prayers organized by Green Lane Masjid and Community Centre.

Increased Patrols and Specialist Units

Officers will be visible around Ladypool Road and Alum Rock Road to reassure communities and ensure a safe celebration. In response to past reports of antisocial behaviour, including noise and nuisance from vehicles, police will deploy specialist officers from the Roads Policing Unit to target anti-social drivers. Dedicated neighbourhood policing teams will also patrol alongside Birmingham City Council's Trading Standards, Environmental Health, and Licensing teams.

Police Statements

Chief Inspector David Amos stated: “We want to make sure that all who come together to celebrate Eid have a safe and enjoyable time. That’s why we work closely with leaders from the Muslim community and why I am keen to set out clearly how we will be policing this event. Our officers are here to help and support the community, but as ever we will be taking a fair, balanced and robust approach and taking appropriate action against anyone looking to cause trouble by driving or behaving in an anti-social manner.”

Chief Inspector Chanelle Whitney added: “Eid is a time of celebration, and we enjoy our conversations with residents and business owners who are looking forward to it. We’ve been working closely within our communities in the lead up to the event and, as with our policing operations for Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, we welcome the feedback given to us. Should you have any concerns or issues to report, please speak to local officers.”
