Authorities reported that a man sustained a serious head injury and was promptly transported to a hospital for urgent medical care. A police spokesperson elaborated, stating, "Following further enquiries at the scene, we are satisfied there was no third-party involvement and that this was a medical episode." The West Midlands Ambulance Service responded to the call at 2.31am, deploying two ambulances, a paramedic officer, and a MERIT trauma doctor accompanied by a critical care paramedic. Upon arrival, they discovered a single patient, a man, who received treatment for serious injuries before being taken to hospital for additional assessment.
The incident necessitated the diversion of city centre buses away from the scene, causing temporary disruptions to public transport routes. The cordoned area remained closed for approximately 12 hours before being reopened to the public, allowing normal activities to resume in the vicinity.
