Police Vow to Continue Crackdown After Seizing Off-Road Bikes and Knives in Solihull

Police in Solihull have issued a stern warning that their efforts are far from over, following a significant operation that resulted in the seizure of illegal off-road bikes and knives. The joint crackdown, which took place on Sunday, March 1, targeted individuals using these bikes to commit crimes and cause disruption across the borough.

Operation Results and Arrests

During the operation, officers successfully seized three off-road bikes, recovered a stolen mini-bus, and made three arrests. In addition, two knives were confiscated, along with several bags of cannabis. Two of those arrested have been charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and remanded to court, highlighting the seriousness of the offenses.

Inspector Jenny Willetts from Solihull Police emphasized the ongoing commitment to community safety, stating, "We continue to listen to what our residents have to say, and this latest operation is just one way we’re targeting those causing issues in our communities." She added that over the past 12 months, similar operations have been regularly conducted to seize bikes and protect the public.

Safety Risks and Public Cooperation

The illegal use of off-road bikes poses a severe safety risk, as they are often ridden in an anti-social manner on footpaths and open spaces. Inspector Willetts explained, "Our operations and patrols are carried out based on information we receive from the public about where and when this kind of behaviour happens." This underscores the crucial role of community input in guiding police efforts.

She further affirmed, "Our work targeting off-road bikes isn’t finished, and we will continue acting on information received from the public," signaling a sustained focus on this issue.

Collaborative Efforts

The operation saw collaboration from various police units, including neighbourhood officers from Chelmsley Wood and Smith's Wood teams, the off-road bike team, the Roads Policing Unit, the Drones team, and the Guardian Taskforce. This multi-agency approach demonstrates the comprehensive strategy being employed to tackle crime and anti-social behavior in Solihull.

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, as police efforts rely heavily on public cooperation to ensure community safety and reduce crime rates.
