Prisoner Escapes for Second Time in a Week While Awaiting Deportation
A major manhunt has been launched for Daniel Boakye, a prisoner from HMP Feltham who has escaped from custody for the second time in just one week. The 21-year-old absconded from Lewisham Hospital on Sunday, February 15, at approximately 3:05 PM, while he was receiving medical treatment under police supervision.
Details of the Escape and Previous Incident
Boakye, who resides on Alma Road in Enfield, managed to evade security personnel and officers during his hospital visit. This marks his second escape in a short period; he was previously in the care of prison staff at the same hospital on Tuesday, February 10, and was subsequently apprehended in Thamesmead the following day, February 11.
The Metropolitan Police have issued a detailed description of Boakye to aid in the search. He is described as a Black male of medium height and slim build. At the time of his escape, he was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms and a dark Nike jacket.
Background and Criminal History
Daniel Boakye was sentenced to six years and five months in prison in July 2023 for a series of knifepoint robberies involving cryptocurrency, totaling £115,000. Additionally, reports indicate that he was due to be deported to Ghana in the coming months, adding urgency to the manhunt efforts.
Outside of his criminal activities, Boakye is known for his involvement in the music industry. He performed under the stage name Dsavv as a member of the rap collective 'OFB,' which stands for Original Farm Boys. His musical repertoire includes tracks such as 'Prince of the O' and 'Still Want More.' Notably, his fellow bandmate, Kemani Duggan, also known as Bandokay, is currently serving a five-year sentence for possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
Police Response and Public Appeal
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police provided a statement regarding the incident, confirming that Boakye was in police custody at Lewisham Hospital when he fled. Officers pursued him but were unable to detain him before he exited the building. The police are actively reviewing the incident to understand the full sequence of events, with the Directorate of Professional Standards also being informed.
Authorities are urging the public to assist in the manhunt. Anyone with information about Boakye's whereabouts is encouraged to contact the police immediately by calling 999 and quoting reference CAD4005/15FEB. The escape has raised concerns about security protocols, especially given that it occurred while Boakye was under police guard. The reasons for his hospital visit remain unclear, but the incident underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement in managing high-risk individuals.
