A 17-year-old girl has been hospitalised after being stabbed in the neck in an incident that prompted a major police response in Brierfield, Lancashire.

Armed officers were dispatched to Wood Street at approximately 3:00 PM on Friday, June 12, following reports of a stabbing. Lancashire Police confirmed that the teenage victim sustained a stab wound to her neck and was taken to hospital for treatment.

A 30-year-old man was arrested shortly after the incident on suspicion of attempted murder, according to Lancashire Live.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police stated: “We were called at 3:06 PM today to Wood Street, Brierfield, to a report of a stabbing. It was reported that a 17-year-old girl had been assaulted and suffered a stab injury to her neck. Officers, some of them armed, attended and a 30-year-old man was arrested shortly afterwards on suspicion of attempted murder. The girl was taken to hospital for treatment to a stab wound in the back of her neck.”

The police acknowledged that the incident would cause alarm in the local community and announced that extra patrols would be in the area this evening to provide reassurance.
