Two Gunmen Sentenced to Decades in Prison for Wolverhampton Bar Shooting
Two men have been handed lengthy prison sentences after opening fire on a group of people outside a Wolverhampton bar, leaving three women with serious injuries. The violent incident occurred on September 27, 2024, at approximately 11pm, following a party at Jack's Cafe on Frederick Street in the city centre.
Details of the Shooting and Investigation
Investigators determined that the firearm was discharged by Shaun Andrews, aged 24, and DeShaun White, aged 22, both residents of Wolverhampton. The pair fired from a black Seat Ibiza before fleeing the scene along Compton Road towards Nottingham. The attack left three women with severe gunshot wounds, requiring extensive medical treatment.
Firearms officers were alerted just two days later when the vehicle returned to Wolverhampton on Parkfield Road, near the junction with Birmingham New Road. White, who was the registered keeper of the car, was promptly arrested and charged with attempted murder.
Arrests and Court Proceedings
Andrews attempted to evade capture by fleeing to Scotland but was later apprehended by police in Manchester. He was subsequently charged with attempted murder as well. Following a trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court, both men were convicted on multiple serious charges.
The convictions included three counts of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. As a result, Andrews was sentenced to 40 years imprisonment, while White received a 38-year jail term.
Police Response and Community Impact
Detective Inspector Racheal Allen of West Midlands Police commented on the case, stating, "The three women are sadly still continuing to recover from their injuries inflicted by the violence these two men unleashed." She emphasized the force's stance on gun crime, adding, "Gun crime is a danger that we cannot tolerate on our streets. This sentencing sends a strong message that those who carry it out will be punished and spend many, many years behind bars for their actions."
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police further highlighted ongoing efforts to combat violent crime in the area. "Our police teams are committed to stopping public space violence and officers are continuing with Op Redfox across Wolverhampton, and tackling those involved in organised or gang-related activity across the city," the spokesperson said. "This work across our communities aims to address local concerns and the impact of violent crime."
The sentencing underscores the severe consequences of firearm-related violence and the continued dedication of law enforcement to maintain public safety in Wolverhampton and the wider West Midlands region.
