Two men sustained serious electrical burns in a fire that broke out near Walsall Railway Station on Thursday, June 25. The incident occurred on the ground floor of a disused, three-storey, mid-terraced property on Station Street, which had mixed commercial and domestic use.
Emergency Response and Injuries
West Midlands Fire Service received an alert at approximately 6:40 am. Three fire engines from Walsall and Bloxwich fire stations responded, with the first crew arriving within three minutes of mobilization. Firefighters in breathing apparatus used hose reels and a fire extinguisher to extinguish the blaze, which involved an electrical substation.
Two men were treated at the scene for what are believed to be serious electrical burns. They were subsequently rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance. Their current condition has not been disclosed.
Power Outage and Road Closure
The fire caused a number of nearby properties to lose power. National Grid engineers attended the scene and have been working to restore electricity to affected homes and businesses. As of 9:30 am, Station Street remained closed in both directions to facilitate emergency operations.
