Man Appears in Court Charged with Wolverhampton Double Murder
A 38-year-old man has appeared in court via video link, accused of murdering two men in Wolverhampton. Maneer Khan faces two murder charges following a fatal shooting on Leicester Street in the Whitmore Reans area.
The victims, Duaine Mills, 28, and Syed Zain Ali, 32, died in the early hours of September 19. The incident prompted a major investigation by West Midlands Police, who arrested and charged Khan last week.
Court Hearing and Co-Accused
Khan appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Monday, November 24, from HMP Dovegate in Staffordshire. He was joined by Yaseen Patel, 34, from Birmingham, who has been charged with assisting an offender.
Both men wore dark clothing with an orange sash for the brief hearing before Judge Michael Chambers KC. The court was informed that a future trial is likely to last for three weeks, although a specific date has not yet been set.
Case Adjourned for Plea Hearing
Judge Chambers adjourned the case and ordered both defendants to appear in person for their next hearing on January 5. They will be required to enter formal pleas of guilty or not guilty at that time.
The judge remanded both Khan and Patel into custody until the January hearing, stating, “Your case is being adjourned, the next hearing will be the 5th of January when you will be asked if you plead guilty or not guilty. In the meantime, you must remain in custody.”
