Wolverhampton gunman jailed for 24 years

A 27-year-old gunman has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for a brutal attempted murder in Wolverhampton, following a dramatic rooftop capture by police.

Close-Range Attack Near City Park

Kieron Thomas used a shotgun to fire at his victim at close range near a park on Dudley Road, Wolverhampton, on August 27. Despite suffering significant injuries to his body and left arm, the victim managed to reach a nearby property and raise the alarm.

Emergency first aid was administered at the scene by specially-trained firearms officers from West Midlands Police before paramedics arrived. The victim was subsequently transported to hospital for further treatment.

The Hunt and Dramatic Arrest

An investigation was swiftly launched, with CCTV footage used to piece together the events of that night. Police confirmed the incident stemmed from a dispute between several individuals known to Thomas.

He was quickly identified as the prime suspect. When firearms officers executed a warrant at a Wolverhampton address, Thomas attempted to flee. He scrambled over fences and into neighbouring gardens in a desperate bid to escape.

However, with support from police drones and dog units, his location was pinpointed. The moment of his apprehension was captured on bodycam footage, showing an officer shouting "Show me your hands!" as Thomas was discovered on a tin roof.

Evidence and Sentencing

Following a search of the gardens, a balaclava and a glove were recovered. Both items contained a shotgun cartridge. A further 27 cartridges were seized from the address.

Thomas, of Elizabeth Avenue, Wolverhampton, admitted to attempted murder at a hearing at Wolverhampton Crown Court on October 7, 2025.

He has now been handed a 24-year jail sentence for his crimes, bringing a dangerous individual to justice.
