Worcester man jailed for 50 weeks after stair attack

A Worcester man has been sent to prison for a total of 50 weeks after a violent attack in which he punched a woman and pushed her down a flight of concrete stairs.

Violent Assault in Worcester Property

Jake Morris, aged 30, of Bromwich Road in Worcester, was found guilty of Actual Bodily Harm (ABH) following the incident on Tuesday, 2nd December. The attack took place at a property in the city, where Morris subjected his victim to a prolonged assault.

During the attack, the woman was struck around the head before being pushed down the concrete staircase. West Mercia Police arrested Morris and he was remanded in police custody overnight prior to his court appearance.

Court Sentencing and Previous Offence

Morris appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court, where he was sentenced to 34 weeks in prison for the ABH conviction. He was also found guilty on two counts of assault and battery.

His total jail term was increased to 50 weeks after the court activated a 16-week suspended sentence for a previous offence of violence against another woman. The magistrates further imposed a two-year restraining order to protect his latest victim.

Police Response and Victim Bravery

Detective Constable Pete Ryland of West Mercia Police commended the victim for her courage in coming forward. He stated that the force takes violence against women and girls extremely seriously and will deal with perpetrators robustly.

"In this case we are pleased to say he was swiftly arrested, brought before the courts and sent to prison for a total of 50 weeks," DC Ryland said. The police emphasised their commitment to tackling such crimes and supporting victims through the judicial process.
