A youth was discovered carrying a nine-inch butcher's knife in Wolverhampton city centre over the weekend, after police chased him down an alleyway. The young male, whose age has not been disclosed, was apprehended on Saturday, May 30, following a brief pursuit.
Incident Details
According to authorities, the suspect reacted to police presence and fled down an alley in the city centre. Officers gave chase and successfully tackled him at the other end. A subsequent search uncovered the large knife concealed on his person.
Project Guardian Response
The stop and search was carried out by the Project Guardian team, which focuses on tackling gangs and youth violence. They shared an image of the youth in handcuffs on the ground, detained by two officers, on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, May 31.
The team posted: 'GTF T5 chased this young male in Wolverhampton city centre yesterday after he reacted to Police and fled down an alley. He was cut off and tackled by officers at the other side. A search of his person has revealed a butchers knife with a 9 inch blade. #LifeorKnife.'
