A heritage railway attraction is offering a heartwarming and unique alternative to a traditional Christmas Day, inviting people to join its "railway family" for a festive steam train journey.
A Festive Offer Accessible To All
The Great Central Railway (GCR) in Loughborough will operate three special services on December 25th. In a generous move to ensure everyone can join the festivities, the day will operate on a 'pay what you can afford' basis. Tickets will be purchased on board, with all contributions going directly to support the not-for-profit railway, which is maintained by dedicated volunteers.
The railway stated: "Whether you're seeking some company and a chance to spend the day with our railway family, or you'd like to swap the traditional Christmas walk for a festive journey, we'd love to welcome you aboard."
Journey Details and Festive Treats
The steam trains will depart from Loughborough Central Station at 11:30am, 12:45pm, and 2:30pm. They will also pick up passengers from Leicester North station at 12:05pm, 1:20pm, and 3:05pm.
Passengers can look forward to a truly festive atmosphere on board. The railway will be serving complimentary mince pies and mulled wine, with a fully-stocked bar available for those preferring an alternative drink.
Community Spirit Drives Christmas Magic
Since announcing the special Christmas Cracker services, the railway has reported being 'truly humbled' by the public's response. Many people have donated to support the event, even if they cannot attend themselves, helping others to enjoy the experience.
The GCR added: "Your kindness and generosity mean so much. Thanks to your support, even more people will be able to enjoy the magic of the railway, now and in the future."
Due to the expected high demand, the railway has warned that trains may be busier than usual with limited seating.
