Oldham Dad Found Dead in Car Days After Missing Report

Christopher Neary, a 58-year-old father from Oldham, was found dead inside his car days after being reported missing, police have confirmed.

Missing Person Search

Mr. Neary was last seen by a neighbor on Thursday, May 28, prompting a major search. His family stated he was traveling in his silver Ford Focus and had left his flat on Lees New Road at approximately 6:55 PM.

Discovery of the Vehicle

On Monday night, June 1, emergency services responded to a report of a car that had left the carriageway on Lees New Road, near the junction with Abbey Hills Road. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that a man was found dead inside the vehicle, later identified as Mr. Neary.

The Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is now leading the investigation into the incident.

Police Statement

A GMP spokesperson said: "Christopher had been reported as missing by his family last week, and who have now asked for privacy as they come to terms with the loss of their loved one. We are continuing to investigate the full circumstances of the crash, including exactly when the collision occurred and its causes."

Detective Inspector Clare Harrison added: "Firstly, I want to extend my condolences to Christopher’s family and friends – this is a tragic outcome and I want to ensure that we provide them with the answers they deserve. We are working hard to establish the circumstances that led to his death – including his movements in the days preceding, and in which he was reported missing, as well as the exact cause of the collision."

Appeal for Information

Police are urging anyone with information, including CCTV or dashcam footage from the area between 6:50 PM on May 28 and Monday, June 1, to contact them.
