Travellers set up new camp in Birmingham park

Travellers have established a new encampment at Daisy Farm Park in Highter's Heath, Birmingham. Caravans and vehicles were observed on the grass on Monday, June 8.

Previous incidents

This follows a similar situation at Parkdale Park, off Longbridge Lane in West Heath, where locals reported feeling unsafe due to stone-throwing and alleged thefts.

Council response

Birmingham City Council has stated: "Birmingham City Council is committed to actively protecting its land and will take steps to recover this land where unauthorised encampments encroach upon it."

Additionally, the council noted that its pilot programme to introduce temporary sites for travellers is not progressing. However, the council has useable transit sites and plots for the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller community, in line with government policy. The Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment from 2019 is available on the council's website.
