The colourful floral displays of summer may be a memory, but the Kent town of Hythe is ensuring its streets remain vibrant throughout the colder months. A dedicated team has completed a seasonal refresh of the High Street's planters, introducing a beautiful new palette of winter flowers for everyone to enjoy.
Community Effort Behind the Blooms
This transformation is the work of Hythe in Bloom, an initiative operating under the umbrella of the Hythe Civic Society. The project relies entirely on a committed group of local volunteers. These individuals are responsible for planting the High Street troughs in both summer and winter, and they diligently water the displays throughout the summer months.
The successful planting scheme is made possible by the generous support of local sponsors. This year, Lawrence Estate Agents, Charlier Construction, and Hythe Town Council provided crucial funding. Additional contributions in kind were gratefully received from The Chocolate Deli, Beck Mobiles, and The Boathouse.
A Wonderful Winter Selection
Thanks to this sponsorship, volunteers have been able to strip out the old summer plants and introduce a wonderful new selection. The freshly planted winter displays now feature cheerful blooms including crocuses, pansies, and polyanthus, chosen to provide a splash of colour during the shorter days.
The physical work was carried out by a team of local volunteers, all keen to ensure that Hythe looks its colourful best throughout the entire year. Their efforts mean that local residents and visitors alike can continue to enjoy a bright and welcoming High Street.
Looking Forward to a Colourful Display
Sally Chesters, organiser of Hythe in Bloom, praised the team's efforts. She said: “Once again, the brilliant team of Hythe in Bloom volunteers has done a great job of planting-up the High Street. Without their continuing input and that of our sponsors, all year-round floral displays would not be possible.”
She added, “We look forward to seeing the High Street once again filled with colour for local residents and visitors to Hythe to enjoy.” This community-driven project is a perfect example of how collaboration between volunteers and local businesses can significantly enhance a town's public spaces and atmosphere.
