The day's commemorations will commence with a heartfelt service at St Mary and All Saints Church, beginning at 9:15am. Following the religious observance, attendees will process to the town's central war memorial for the traditional wreath-laying ceremony at approximately 10:50am.
Essential Road Closure Information
To ensure the safety of participants and spectators, several key roads around Chesterfield town centre will be temporarily closed during the commemorative events. Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes and allow extra journey time between 9:30am and 12:30pm on Sunday.
A Community United in Remembrance
Local residents, veterans, cadet groups, and emergency services will join together in this annual act of collective remembrance. The parade will feature standard bearers, military representatives, and community organisations, creating a powerful visual tribute to Chesterfield's connection to Britain's armed forces.
The iconic war memorial in Chesterfield town centre will serve as the focal point for reflection, with the traditional two-minute silence observed at 11am to mark the exact time the Armistice came into effect in 1918.
Supporting the Poppy Appeal
This year's commemorations also provide an opportunity to support the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal, which continues to provide vital assistance to serving and ex-serving personnel and their families. Local volunteers will be collecting donations throughout the remembrance period.
