Emaciated Kitten Found Tied in Bin Bag on Wolverhampton Roadside
A severely malnourished kitten, now named Juniper, was discovered in a distressing state after being found tied up inside a plastic bin bag and abandoned on the side of a road in Wolverhampton. The young feline was located on Castlecroft Road late on Friday evening, January 23rd, with her condition so poor that her bones were visibly protruding through her fur.
Urgent Rescue and Veterinary Intervention
A compassionate passerby, described as a good Samaritan, immediately rushed the emaciated kitten to a local veterinary practice for emergency attention. Following initial assessment over the weekend, Juniper was transferred into the dedicated care of Raven's Rescue, a Dudley-based animal charity specialising in rehabilitation.
The charity has confirmed that Juniper, estimated to be approximately nine months old, is currently receiving intensive veterinary treatment for her severe emaciation. Weighing a mere 1.6 kilograms, she is being fed little and often under close supervision to help her gain weight safely and gradually.
Charity's Heartbreaking Appeal
In a social media post sharing a photograph of the rescued kitten, a spokesperson for Raven's Rescue introduced Juniper to their supporters, detailing the circumstances of her discovery. The charity expressed profound distress at the ongoing abuse inflicted upon defenceless animals, stating they are at a loss regarding the volume of neglect cases they have encountered in recent weeks.
The spokesperson emphasised: "We honestly don’t think we can face anymore of this abuse on defenceless animals. We are at a loss at the amount of abuse and neglect we are having to deal with in the last few weeks."
Pattern of Animal Cruelty in the Region
This incident follows a troubling pattern of animal abandonment in the West Midlands area handled by the same rescue organisation. Earlier in January, the charity rescued six cats that had been cruelly dumped near a park in Smethwick, confined within a zipped black bag.
Furthermore, just before Christmas, the team responded to an emergency involving three tiny Dachshund puppies found abandoned in a rain-soaked cardboard box on a towpath in Four Ashes, near Wolverhampton. Tragically, two of those puppies did not survive their ordeal.
Juniper's case highlights the continuing challenges faced by animal welfare charities in combating neglect and cruelty, while also showcasing the vital role of community vigilance and compassionate intervention in saving vulnerable animals.
