Folkestone Town Mayor Celebrates Community Champions with Annual Awards

Each year, typically in March, the Town Mayor of Folkestone has the honor of bestowing the Town Mayor's Community Award upon local residents. Past recipients have included a diverse range of individuals, from church volunteers to those dedicated to supporting the most vulnerable members of society.

This year, Councillor Lucy McGirr took on the role, expressing her delight in acknowledging community members who selflessly work to enhance the town without seeking any personal recognition. Nominations are actively solicited from the public, and this year saw a significant number of submissions, highlighting the wide array of activities undertaken by the nominees.

Heartfelt Recognition from Councillor McGirr

Councillor Lucy McGirr shared her enthusiasm, stating: "It was a pleasure to host Colin, Flo, Tim, and the Folkestone Cricket Club on Friday at the Town Hall. It truly warmed my heart to present these awards in recognition of their unwavering support for our community—whether through championing our veterans, uplifting our town, encouraging creativity among our young people, or bringing together individuals of all genders, ages, and abilities to stay active."
