Rossendale Ramblers Enjoy Spring Sunshine on Scenic Hikes
Seventeen enthusiastic ramblers gathered in the charming village of Worsthorne on a bright Wednesday, embarking on a 10-mile walk through an area renowned for its reservoirs, moorland, and striking gritstone outcrops like the Gorple Stones. The group was treated to breathtaking views throughout the journey, ensuring a thoroughly enjoyable day for all participants.
Weather Challenges and Resilience on Sunday Walk
On Sunday, ten walkers set off from Bury for a 7-mile hike, initially basking in sunshine before encountering a sharp hail shower early in the route. Undeterred by the sudden weather change, the group persevered, continuing their trek through Buckhurst and Nuttall Park in Ramsbottom, eventually returning via Summerseat. This demonstrates the resilience and dedication of the Rossendale Ramblers community.
Upcoming Social Walks and Community Events
Looking ahead, the Rossendale Ramblers have scheduled several engaging events for April. On Saturday, April 18, they will host a popular two-hour pub walk from Bury, exploring the Kirklees Valley area, which boasts a rich industrial heritage and is now designated as a Local Nature Reserve. After the walk, participants are invited to enjoy refreshments, lunch, and socializing for an additional hour, fostering community connections.
On Sunday, April 19, a 6-mile walk will commence from Marl Pits, venturing onto the local moorland. This event will feature a special collaboration with the Friends of Bocholt, who organize reciprocal twinning trips between Bocholt and Rawtenstall, highlighting the group's international community ties.
