Summit Learning Trust Celebrates Over 140 Young Carers at Special Event
Young carers from across the Summit Learning Trust schools came together this month for a significant event that honoured their dedication, resilience, and contributions to their families and communities. Hosted by Ninestiles, an Academy, the gathering brought together more than 140 young carers from the trust's nine schools, providing a day of recognition and support.
A Day of Fun and Connection
The event kicked off with a fun and sociable trip to Acocks Green Bowling Centre. Here, learners enjoyed quality time together, allowing them to relax, connect with peers, and share experiences with others who understand their unique responsibilities. This activity fostered a sense of community and provided a much-needed break from their daily routines.
Celebratory Gathering and Recognition
Following the bowling session, learners returned to Ninestiles for a celebratory gathering in the school hall. The event featured a short speech delivered by Doug Wright MBE DL from the West Midlands Lieutenancy, alongside Vince Green, CEO of Summit Learning Trust. They recognised the crucial role young carers play and praised their strength and commitment, highlighting the trust's ongoing support.
A specially prepared video was also shared, showcasing the experiences of young carers to raise awareness and celebrate their voices. This multimedia element added depth to the event, emphasising the importance of listening to and valuing these young individuals.
Community Support and Final Gestures
Learners then enjoyed lunch together, with a light-hearted quiz to round off the afternoon. Visiting organisations, including Action for Children and Birmingham Young Carers, were in attendance, offering additional support and strengthening community links. As a final gesture, organisers ensured that each young carer received an Easter egg to take home, adding a touch of warmth and appreciation.
