Birmingham Pub Attack: Two Men Sentenced for Glass Bottle Assault

A man has been sentenced to four years in jail after attacking another man with a glass bottle during a disorder outside a pub in Birmingham. The incident, which occurred on Erdington High Street, led to police involvement and a thorough investigation.

Details of the Violent Incident

Police were called to the scene on July 2 last year following reports of a man being injured by a glass bottle outside the venue. An investigation, aided by CCTV footage and public assistance, identified Omar Clarke and Herbert Palmer as the perpetrators.

The footage revealed that the victim was attempting to calm an argument between Clarke and a woman. In response, Clarke pushed the man and struck him with a glass bottle. Palmer, who was nearby, joined in the attack, escalating the violence.

Arrests and Court Proceedings

Both men were tracked down, arrested, and charged over the assault. In January, Clarke, aged 35 of Beech Dean Grove, pleaded guilty to section 18 grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

At Birmingham Crown Court on Thursday, March 26, he was jailed for four years. Palmer, aged 59 of Parkhouse Drive, pleaded guilty to section 20 grievous bodily harm and received a 16-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.

Police Response and Accountability

Detective Constable Amelia Rose, from Operation Fearless, commented on the case, stating, "Clarke has rightly been sent to prison for what was a serious violent assault. Both he and Palmer have been held accountable for their actions and the impact they've had on the victim."

This sentencing underscores the commitment of local authorities to address violent crimes and ensure community safety in Birmingham. The use of CCTV and public cooperation played a crucial role in bringing the offenders to justice.
