Vernon Kay brands Strictly pros 'two-faced' over baggy jeans gossip
Vernon Kay slams 'two-faced' Strictly colleagues

BBC Radio 2 presenter Vernon Kay has publicly called out his wife Tess Daly's Strictly Come Dancing colleagues, labelling them 'two-faced' after discovering they had been gossiping about his choice of trousers.

The Fashion Debate That Divided a Family

The drama unfolded during Vernon's BBC Radio 2 show, where the 51-year-old host revisited a light-hearted domestic dispute. He revealed that his recent purchase of a pair of baggy jeans had caused what he described as 'massive guffawing' from his wife, Tess Daly, 56, and their two daughters, Phoebe, 21, and Amber, 16.

The situation escalated when Vernon wore the contentious jeans to the Strictly Come Dancing studios in late October to support Tess, who is leaving the BBC show alongside co-host Claudia Winkleman at the end of this year.

'How Dare You Be Two-Faced?'

During his Tuesday programme, Vernon shared his irritation with listeners, explaining that while his Radio 2 audience and colleagues supported his fashion choice, the Strictly team had been less complimentary behind his back.

'Everyone at work thinks they're a vibe, everyone I bump into thinks they're a vibe,' Vernon stated. 'But apparently when I visited Strictly Come Dancing in my baggy jeans, as I said a few days ago, once my back was turned, 'oh why is he wearing them?''

The former model, who stands over six feet tall, didn't hold back his feelings, exclaiming: 'I'm like, how dare you? How dare you be two-faced? If you don't like them, say it to my face, just say it!'

Standing Firm on Fashion

Despite the criticism, Vernon remains defiant about his sartorial selection. He joked that as a grown man, he could handle direct criticism, even if it meant 'I'll go back to the car and wind my windows up and then I'll cry!'

The presenter provided a practical defence for his choice, explaining that the 34/36 inch leg trousers are perfectly suited to his height. 'The thing about the baggy trousers is, they're a long enough leg, you know what I mean?' he told listeners.

Vernon had previously described the relaxed-fit jeans as resembling an '80s pair of women's culottes', though he appreciates them for being 'very airy'. His fashion stance even garnered support from a listener called 'Mike the trucker', who asked to borrow the trousers for a Madness concert.

While the fashion debate continues in the Kay-Daly household, Vernon shows no signs of retiring his controversial jeans, proving that when it comes to personal style, he's comfortable marching to the beat of his own drum.
