British mum arrested after pit bull kills toddler on Zante

A British mother has been arrested following the tragic death of her two-year-old son, who was mauled by a pit bull dog while on holiday on the Greek island of Zante.

Details of the Tragic Attack

The incident occurred after the young boy had been out shopping with his father and British mother. Shortly after returning to their accommodation, the child reportedly escaped his parents' attention.

He entered a room where the dog, described as a pit bull, was kept on a chain. The animal then attacked the helpless toddler, biting him severely in the face and head.

Emergency Response and Aftermath

The boy was rushed to the General Hospital of Zakynthos for emergency treatment. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, they were unable to save his life.

In a devastating turn, local media reported that both parents have been arrested and charged with manslaughter in connection with the incident on Saturday, 7 December 2025.

History of the Dog

Reports suggest the animal involved was not a family pet with a long history. It is claimed the pit bull was a stray found near the family's house approximately two months prior to the attack.

The couple are said to have taken the dog in and had been caring for it during that time. The investigation is ongoing as authorities piece together the full circumstances leading to the fatal mauling.
