MAFS Australia's Chris Robinson Opens Up About Joining Show With Children on the Way
Married At First Sight Australia contestant Chris Robinson has made history on the popular dating show by becoming the first participant to join while expecting children. The intruder groom, who married Sam Stanton on the program, recently defended his controversial decision to pursue love on television while preparing for fatherhood.
Revealing the Pregnancy News to His TV Husband
Throughout his time on MAFS Australia, Chris had been anxiously waiting for the appropriate moment to disclose to Sam that he was expecting two children through surrogacy arrangements. When he finally shared the significant news, Sam responded with surprise but offered his congratulations. Remarkably, Sam assured Chris that this development would not impact their budding relationship, stating clearly that it wouldn't affect his desire to date or be with him.
Addressing Public Criticism and Setting the Record Straight
Despite facing considerable public scrutiny and questions about his motivations for joining the reality dating series while anticipating parenthood, Chris has now provided a comprehensive explanation for his decision. In an interview with PEDESTRIAN.TV, Chris revealed that producers actually approached him through Instagram rather than him applying independently.
"So I was contacted on Instagram, I sent through a video, and then I was put on hold for a little bit, so I just put it in my 'not happening' pile and continued with my life," Chris explained. "Then the producer called me and said, 'Chris, we've got some really great news, we found you a match', and they really wanted a gay couple to work."
Although Chris acknowledged that the timing wasn't ideal, he felt compelled by the possibility of finding his lifelong partner through the show. "What if they found me someone who is really matched with me and could be my husband? I've been looking for this forever, why don't I try and give it a crack?" he added, expressing his hopeful perspective.
Fatherhood Journey and Family Details
During promotional appearances for MAFS Australia, including on Today Extra, Chris shared that he has already become a father. He welcomed a daughter in late 2025 through a donor arrangement with friends who are a lesbian couple. While the child lives full-time with her mothers who have complete responsibility for her, Chris maintains regular contact, visiting two or three times each week.
The reality television participant also disclosed that he is awaiting the arrival of another child via a surrogate based in Colombia. This journey experienced complications during filming, as Chris revealed: "Unfortunately whilst I was filming, there was a bit of an issue around my surrogate journey. [We] had a couple of embryos and the surrogate unfortunately lost one of them."
Navigating Unconventional Paths to Love and Family
Chris Robinson's story highlights the complex intersections of modern dating, alternative family structures, and reality television participation. His candid explanations provide insight into the challenging decisions faced by individuals pursuing both romantic relationships and parenthood through non-traditional means. As MAFS Australia continues to feature diverse participants and relationships, Chris's experience represents a significant milestone in the show's exploration of contemporary love and family dynamics.
