West Midlands Police have launched an urgent appeal for the mother of a newborn baby who was found dead in Rowley Regis. The baby was discovered in the area of Brickhouse Lane South on Tuesday, 14 March, at around 1:30pm. Officers were called to the scene after a member of the public made the discovery.
Welfare Concerns for the Mother
Police are extremely concerned for the welfare of the mother, who may require urgent medical attention. Detective Inspector Jim Colclough, from the force's homicide team, said: "Our primary concern is for the mother's welfare. She may be in need of medical help, and we urge her to come forward so we can ensure she receives the appropriate care."
The baby is believed to have been born recently, and the mother is likely to be in a vulnerable state. Officers have been conducting extensive enquiries in the area, including house-to-house visits and reviewing CCTV footage, but have so far been unable to identify the mother.
Appeal for Information
Police are asking anyone who might know the mother's identity or who has any information to come forward. They are also appealing directly to the mother to contact them via 999 or to attend a hospital for medical assistance. Detective Inspector Colclough added: "We want to reassure the mother that our priority is her health and well-being. We are not looking to criminalise her; we want to make sure she is safe and receiving the support she needs."
The death of the baby is being treated as unexplained, and a post-mortem examination will be carried out to determine the cause of death. Officers remain at the scene, and cordons are in place while investigations continue.

Local residents have expressed shock at the discovery. The area is a residential street with a mix of houses and flats. One resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "It's terrible. You never expect something like this to happen in your neighbourhood. I hope the mother is found safe and gets the help she needs."
