Birmingham campaigner urges couples to stop having sex in cemetery
Stop graveyard sex, urges Birmingham campaigner

A Birmingham campaigner has called on couples to stop engaging in sexual activities at Yardley Cemetery and Crematorium, describing the behaviour as disrespectful to the deceased.

Campaigner reports late-night encounters

John Gilmore, who works to protect cemeteries, claimed that thrill-seekers have been having late-night "endeavours and encounters" at the burial site off Clay Lane. In a Facebook video, he said: "I've been informed there's shenanigans, hanky pankies going on along this stretch of Clay Lane." He appealed to couples in the Yardley, Sheldon, and Birmingham areas to "find an alleyway, find a park, book a hotel room - do it somewhere else."

Disrespectful acts condemned

Gilmore described the behaviour as "most undignified and disrespectful to those who have passed away." He reported the incidents to West Midlands Police on June 12. The campaigner urged the public to respect the sanctity of the cemetery, which serves as a place of remembrance for families and friends of the deceased.

Ongoing concerns

This is not the first time such claims have emerged in Birmingham. Gilmore has previously highlighted similar issues in other churchyards. He continues to monitor the site and encourages anyone witnessing such acts to report them to authorities. Birmingham City Council has not yet commented on the specific allegations but maintains that all visitors should behave respectfully in cemeteries.
