Colne's town centre is poised to glow with festive spirit once more as the beloved Minibloom light festival makes its eagerly anticipated return this month. This vibrant celebration marks the seasonal transition from winter towards spring, bringing warmth and colour to the community.
A Scaled-Down Celebration Leading to Winterbloom's Full Return
While the larger Winterbloom festival is scheduled to return in full force in 2027, Colne Business Improvement District (BID) has partnered once again with Handmade Productions and Independent Street to deliver Minibloom. This carefully curated, scaled-down version ensures that the town continues its cherished tradition of illuminating the darker months.
Focus on the New Market Hall and Surrounding Area
This year's festivities will centre around Colne's new Market Hall and its immediate vicinity, creating a concentrated hub of activity. Organisers have decided to proceed without a parade, instead focusing on creating an immersive experience within this key location.
The event will see an exciting collaboration between local community groups, professional artists, and traders, all working together to create an unforgettable day for residents and visitors alike.
Dazzling Light Installations and Community Art
Handmade Productions will be bringing their signature magic to Colne with captivating light installations, including interactive puppets designed to entertain crowds of all ages. These professional displays will be complemented by special artwork created specifically for the event by talented pupils from local schools, showcasing the community's creative spirit.
Entertainment and Performances Throughout the Day
A diverse lineup of community groups and local performers will provide continuous entertainment. Attendees can look forward to performances from Stage Door Youth Theatre, the energetic Stilt Batteristas, and musician Tadhg Bean-Bradley, among others.
Award-Winning Artisan Markets Return
Organisers are particularly excited to welcome back Independent Street with their acclaimed artisan markets. Visitors can explore a wonderful showcase of approximately 50 stalls featuring:
- Local food and drink producers
- Arts and crafts from regional makers
- Unique handmade goods
Additional Family-Friendly Activities
The festival will also feature a free children's art workshop led by artist Mila Raczkowska, providing creative fun for younger visitors. A dedicated street food arena will offer culinary delights, while live music will provide the soundtrack to the day's celebrations.
Community and Business Leaders Express Their Excitement
Ash Sutcliffe, chairman of Colne BID and owner of local business Live Like the Boy, shared his enthusiasm: "We are delighted to continue what has become a tradition in Colne, and to welcome so many performers, traders and visitors back to Colne for Minibloom on February 28. Whether it'll be your first time visiting, or you've lived here forever, you'll get a very warm welcome from the huge variety of businesses we are so lucky to have here in Colne."
Lisa Cowley of Independent Street added: "We are absolutely thrilled to have been asked to showcase at Colne Minibloom. We love coming to Colne and shining a spotlight on the local artisans of the area. Events like this are a great way to bring the community together while boosting footfall and connecting visitors with local businesses. It is also hugely exciting to be working alongside the new operator at Colne's Market Hall. We can't wait to see you all there."
The Minibloom festival represents a significant community effort to brighten the winter months, support local businesses, and celebrate Colne's creative spirit. This scaled-down event maintains the town's festive traditions while building anticipation for Winterbloom's full return in 2027.
