Earl Shilton Scouts Seek Volunteers to Inspire Young Adventurers
Earl Shilton Scout Group Calls for New Volunteers

A Leicestershire youth group is issuing a rallying call for new volunteers to help deliver adventure and vital life skills to the next generation.

An Urgent Call for Community Support

The Earl Shilton Scout Group is actively seeking new volunteers to support its thriving sections for young people. The group needs help running its Beavers (for ages 6-8), Cubs (ages 8-10), and Scouts (ages 10-14). For those who prefer a supporting role, there are also crucial opportunities behind the scenes in areas like fundraising, administration, IT, or acting as a trustee.

Scouting offers an incredible spectrum of over 250 activities, ranging from air sports and pioneering to cooking, emergency aid, and water activities. These programmes are designed to build confidence, independence, and social skills in a safe, fun, and adventurous environment.

Volunteers Share Their Rewarding Experiences

Vanessa, the group's lead volunteer, explained the need for more helpers. "The Group provides a wide range of activities which the children and young people enjoy," she said. "We are looking for volunteers to help with Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. There are also opportunities for people to volunteer for roles in the background."

Current volunteer Abena highlighted the mutual benefits of getting involved. "Volunteering with Scouts is a great opportunity to help young people learn and develop skills along with having fun and trying out new activities," she said. "It’s also a great opportunity to learn and develop new skills yourself, make friends, try new activities and take pride in seeing young people develop."

Building Foundations for Future Generations

Fellow volunteer Nigel described the profound impact volunteers can have. "As volunteers we can help put the foundations in place. We then encourage the children and young people to build upon them as they try new activities and learn skills for life," he stated. "Children and young people want adventure and we provide the opportunity to have those adventures."

Nigel emphasised the transformative power of the role, noting that volunteers witness young people grow in confidence and character. "Volunteering allows you to see changes in the character of young people, see them becoming more confident and see them coming out of their shells. As a volunteer, we can be a role model," he added.

The core mission is to provide face-to-face interaction, experiences, and challenges that help children learn, grow, and develop essential values. The Earl Shilton Scout Group provides the framework, but it relies on the dedication of local volunteers to make it all happen.
